The Tongariro Crossing is in the center of the North Island and is a 19.4km tramp which can be completed in 1 day. Took us about 7hrs including stops. Here are some photos from the day. There were stunning views in every direction from the moment we woke up in National Park. one up high looking east we could see Mt Taranaki, on the decent we could see the other side of lake Taupo.
We decided on this trip not to do the summit or Mount Ngauruhoe as it would of added extra time to the day which we all weren't up for. Tongariro Summit adds and extra 1.5hrs and up to Mount Ngauruhoe Summit adds and additional 2.5hrs but you have to be fit!
The Emerald lakes (the highlight of the walk) are amazing, such deep colours.
On the Sunday we took the long way home and went via Taupo and soaked our sore bodies in the thermal pool, great way to finish the weekend off :)
This post is again; very photo heavy.
