Back yard update.

Well I thought I should put up some photos of how the back yard looks now as it has changed a bit since our inception.

We have moved the tiles from one side to the other as they weren't in front of the ranch slider so it made a lot more sense to have them so you can walk straight out on to them from the lounge. They were also laid very poorly and the water pooled near the middle.
Here are where the tiles and the grass used to be.

Another picture looking the direction.
We ripped up the old paves and the old grass. John helped us with the boxing as to make the area nice and level. We filled it with sand made it level but slope away from the house. We left enough area around the sides for some planting and space for the future BBQ. You can see the mound of dirt growing....

We had a lot of left over soil from switching the two areas around and putting in sand etc. We left this for quite some time before we got the funds to put some lawn down. We had to get a flexi bin to remove all the soil as that was the easiest way for us. We put in a raided garden in the corner for some veges - it is now used for herbs and such as it is only a small one. You can also see the small bush/hedging  along the back of the paved area with some bark.
The most up to date photo
We still have some work to do but its is mostly there, still need tome plants across the back of the new grass , we currently just have weed-mat there to stop the weeds coming through. You can see better in this photo the hedging along the back fence and the new plants in bark beside the house. Also the raided garden in the corner. The grass is very lush and hard wearing so we are pretty happy with it. Grows very fast also, hard to keep on top of it.

It is now very pleasant outside and very welcoming on a warm night. I often have breakfast out here in the morning sun in the weekends. It is also much better for BBQ's and when we have guests.
